More about our Mentor
I was born in regional South Australia, but spent my childhood in Queensland, so grew up with a love for both the bush and coast. After graduating, I moved to Melbourne to embark on a long, successful marketing career that would take me to Dubai and the UK where I first studied beekeeping in 2005 with the North London Beekeepers. After 17 years overseas, I returned to Australia in 2015 and am happily settled back home.
My family is spread far and wide, so I normally head to the USA at least once a year for visit to my brother and nieces. I also drop in on my beekeeping friends who run apiaries in New York and the Mid West to help out with their hive checks and sample their latest harvests.
Last year, I completed my WSET certification in wine tasting to draw parallels with the honey tasting process.
After founding Honey Merchant in 2018, I trained in the sensory analysis of honey in the USA to deepen my knowledge. As well as learning how to identify and describe the unique and complex flavours of honey, it reaffirmed my belief that Australian honey deserves a renewed focus and platform to celebrate its unique and complex qualities.
